Big Girl Programs for Big Girl Dreams

Each One,
Plug One.

BGJ programmes are built around the things a woman with little access to jobs, need to move from searching to earning—a mentor in her corner, practical 21st century skills, a room to enter and someone prepared to say her name when it counts—things many have, but not in Sierra Leone.

Big Sister,
Big Job.

BGJ’s flagship mentorship model and program, BSBJ, proves that when career guidance comes with practice-based skills development, high-level feminist mentorship, and direct opportunity links—then women traditionally excluded from dignified and stable work, can finally achieve their wildest dreams and more.

founding-pilot mentees became the first in their families to secure formal work or a viable income pathway.

Next BIG,
Chapter

In partnership with Youterus Health and Prevention First Initiative, BGJ supports women who have survived uterine health challenges, historically unrecognized in the local health lanscape (including fibroids, HMB, and more), with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and high-powered mentorships as a pathway to successful entrepreneurship and ending cycles of poverty linked to health and gender-based violence.

Creative Research & Justice Programme

Lived experience is evidence. Told or counted through this program, we work with young women to turn invisible labor, exclusion and inequality into research, creative work and policy action that shifts laws, budgets and the systems around them.

BGJ is currently implementing the research study Examining the Gender Dimensions of Implementing the National Policy on Radical Inclusion in Schools for Marginalized Girls in Sierra Leone, commissioned by the African Population and Health Research Center.

The long game

Economic freedom is a start. A whole ecosystem is the finish line.

BGJ is building the care, market access and leadership opportunities women need to stay in the room, grow beyond the first offer and plug in the women coming after them.

On the Horizon

Big Girl Summit

A career-access space where young women, employers and real opportunities are put in the same room—on purpose.

Over the course of three days, women have access to inspiring speakers, resume workshops, employer kiosks at a career fair, spot interviews, and real spot hiring!

On the Horizon

Resource Center & Safe Space

A feminist home base for getting online, getting clear and getting ahead—free digital access, academic and career advice, mental-health support and a feminist library.
With feminist public restrooms—our Power Rooms—stocked with free tampons and pads, it makes care and opportunity part of the same address.

In development

Mu Studio & Sister Honey Pot

A digital storefront designed to help BGJ entrepreneurs mentees sell beyond their immediate networks and keep more of the value they create. A small portion of profits fund the Sister Honey Pot, a hardship and emergency-support fund designed so a short-term crisis does not force a woman to abandon her path.
